On Thursday, October 11th, MITA will tour Oxbow Animal Health in Omaha, NE. This global leader in small animal health and nutrition broke ground on their new facility on March 24, 2016. At more than twice the square footage (250,000 sq. ft.) of the original Oxbow facility, the new campus brought all of Oxbow under one roof, with operations commencing in September, 2017.
History of Oxbow Animal Health
Oxbow Animal Health was founded in 1980 by John Miller, a 5th generation hay grower with a reputation for producing premium agricultural products. In the company’s earliest days, John and Oxbow identified a need in the small pet community for proper nutrition and education. Over the past 30+ years, one farmer’s passion for growing premium hay has transformed into Oxbow’s global commitment to small animal health.
Guided by the principles of innovation, quality, education, and giving back, Oxbow Animal Health takes pride in contributing to the sustained growth and health of the small pet industry. There are currently 84.6 million pet-owning households in the U.S. alone, with small animal ownership at its highest levels in two decades. Since 1980, Oxbow’s premium nutrition and care products have helped revolutionize the way these animals are fed and cared for.
The name Oxbow pay homage to the historic Oxbow Trail, which ran through the Miller family farm where the company’s original manufacturing facility was established and operated from 1980 to 2017. During these years, Oxbow’s facilities were expanded regularly to accommodate exceptional growth. 1998 marked Oxbow’s first export – a single container to Japan. Today, Oxbow products are distributed in more than 35 countries worldwide.
