Charting China’s Economic Future: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in a Rapidly Changing World
MITA kicked off its 2024 programming activities on January 25 with a webinar focused on China, “Charting China’s Economic Future: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in a Rapidly Changing World.” The online program featured Chinese experts in political science and business who teach at Omaha’s most distinguished academic institutions.
The program began with a presentation by Dr. Maorong Jiang, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Creighton University, and the Founding Director of the Asian World Center. Dr. Jiang charted a series of issues affecting China’s economy, with impact on the global landscape and the U.S.-China relationship: China’s changing demographics; declining consumption; trade frictions; authoritarian nature of its political system; and unsustainable economic development model, among other factors.
Dr. Jiang was then joined for a panel discussion by a trio of professors at the University of Nebraska Omaha’s College of Business Administration: Dr. Xiaoming Yang, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship; Dr. Yanhui Zhao, Associate Professor of Marketing; and Dr. Max Yu, Associate Professor of Marketing. The panelists engaged in a frank and lively discussion, responding to audience questions, analyzing current issues and trends, and laying out prospects for the future.
The insightful perspectives of the four academic experts, underpinned by their own recent personal experiences in China, contributed to a timely and informative program that educated MITA’s membership and guest viewers on the prospects for economic and geopolitical relations with China in the coming year and beyond.
The January 25th webinar is typical of the sorts of informational programs that MITA schedules throughout the year. MITA membership is now open with specially discounted rates for applicants who confirm their membership by January 31, 2024.
