2023 MITA Book Drive for the Open Door Mission
THE SEASON OF GIVING — ANNUAL BOOK DRIVE
On Thursday, December 14, 2023, over 15,000 books were be donated to the Open Door Mission’s Educational Programs by the Midwest International Trade Association (MITA) members, along with the AIT Worldwide Logistics Book Program. The books consisted of new toddler and children’s books, along with thousands of puzzle and comic books. Attendees at our Annual Christmas Networking Party on December 13, 2023, brought books and monetary donations to help MITA purchase additional books to add to our total donation for homeless and needy families.
Last year MITA donated 10,000+ new books, including books for children, pre-teens and adults. This is the 23rd year MITA has joined with the AIT Worldwide Logistics Book Program to donate books to the Open Door Mission’s Educational Programs for the homeless and needy, located at 2828 N. 23rd St. East, Omaha, NE.
“These last few years have been hard on everyone, especially our neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty. Since last year, Open Door Mission has seen a 250% increase in our homeless prevention programs. That means so many more people struggle to put food on the table, and many are going hungry. Adding to the crisis, Open Door Mission’s cost of food has gone up 30%, and our donations are down 19%. We are so grateful to your faithful and compassionate generosity to our neediest neighbors to promote literacy which breaks the cycle of homelessness and poverty,” said Candace Gregory, President/CEO of Open Door Mission.
Join us as we support the Lydia House in their mission to support children in our community by donating for next year, Christmas 2024! We take donations all year long so if you would like to contribute, please contact Gloria Penas at mita@mitaonline.org or call 402-596-1210 if you have questions or to donate.
Happy New Year!
